Saving Our Countryside

The Chidswell fields are a 300+ acre 'green space', a bit of nature on our doorstep, presently acting as a filter for our air, and the last green gap between Dewsbury and neighbouring towns.

If we let it go to development, it is gone forever. We must act to stop it.

Steeped in history...

The Chidswell fields are one of the oldest referred to parcels of the land in the area.

Having been farm and recreation land for centuries, we think it would be a real shame to let it be built on. An irreversible decision that will deny us and our future generations the use of this ancient and beautiful green land.

Serving a purpose...

Being used daily by hundreds of people – dog walkers, runners, photographers, bird spotters, wildlife enthusiasts, horse riders; not to mention the farmers and the wildlife themselves. This are not just some barren and empty fields.

They are purposeful and useful space.

Partially originally green belt, strategically removed by the council and the Church Commissioners, this forms a part of our buffer between towns and as a green lung for the area – a job it should be left to continue to do.
